How Much Does Respite Care Cost in Alberta?

In Alberta, most short-term respite stays are private-pay. That means you're covering the cost directly instead of going through a long public waitlist.

Typical daily ranges we see:

Lethbridge / Southern Alberta: around $110–$150 per day for basic support. Calgary / Edmonton: often $135–$175 per day for 1-person assist. Complex memory care or 2-person transfers: $180–$220+ per day.

What "1-person assist" vs "2-person assist" means:

1-person assist: One staff member can help your parent stand, toilet, and transfer. 2-person assist: Two staff are required for safe transfers. Not every home can do this.

If you need 2-person assist, tell us that early. It narrows the list a lot.

What's usually included in the daily rate:

Room, meals, medication reminders Basic personal care (help dressing, bathing) Supervision / safety checks

How billing works:

Most homes bill per day, not per month. You don't usually have to commit to a full month. A lot of homes will do "trial stays," which is perfect after a hospital discharge.
